About Mapping Automation

Mapping Automation was founded in 1984 by Rudy Stricklan, a geospatial industry veteran who began his career in 1972 as a Production Manager for Technical Advisors, a pioneering automated mapping services company. Stricklan, a computer science graduate from the Colorado School of Mines, combined his formal education with geodetic surveying experience to develop a measurement-based methodology for creating computerized property basemaps.

Mapping Automation was the first GIS-focused consultancy in Arizona, and has serviced over 100 client organizations. Its notable accomplishments include:
  • designing and implementing Arizona’s first, and largest at the time, decimeter-accurate municipal GIS (City of Tempe, Intergraph MGE platform)
  • creating innovative GIS geodatabase designs that have been in use by various public-sector agencies for 20+ years (SQL Server® and Oracle® relational database systems on Esri® ARC/INFO® and ArcGIS® platforms)
  • creating and implementing the GeoAccurizing® GIS accuracy improvement technique
  • developing a GIS Lifecycle management process that has been successfully implemented in numerous agencies
  • participating in several GIS standards organizations, including the Federal Geographic Data Committee’s Cadastral Subcommittee
